One thing that is usually the first on the list is the cost of the bike. This doesn't mean other things aren't important, like where you are going to ride or how often you will, but it does mean that the cost of the bicycle should be one of your main concerns.

Good bicycles can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. This doesn't mean you are going to have to spend thousands of dollars on a good bike, because there are ways you can find a great bike for a great price. For a road bike you should take away 9" from the inseam measurement you took earlier. This is due to the type of tires you will be using for a road bike. City riding is done with thin tires, designed to work perfectly with the smooth concrete roads and sidewalks you find in a city. For a mountain bike you will need to take 12" away from your total inseam. Again this is to account for the size of tires. Mountain bike tires will be thick and designed for mountainous terrain. You can of right here course use a mountain bike for road cycling but this isn't supposed to be their primary use.

Just exactly how many gears do you think you’ll use? Make your choice by knowing that if you ride in mountainous areas you’ll need more gears than when riding in a flat area. The number of gears doesn’t make one bike better than another. You may never even get around to using all the available gears. Save your money for a different feature you’ll really use. Ensure you have enough gears to handle the situations in which you will be riding, especially if you bike will be your main mode of transport. When you are searching for the appropriate cycling bicycle to suit you, there are a number of factors to consider. Is this a bike you are going to be riding every single day or is it a bike you are only going to ride every now and them? What seat height gives you the most comfortable ride? Do you feel more at ease with your feet just above the ground as you sit on the seat, or would you rather that your feet sit flat when you are at rest? These are some of the things you need to consider when choosing your bike.
